Discover Jerk N Go

There’s something about the smell of slow-grilled spices that hits you before you even open the door at Jerk N Go. Located at 887 S Lake St, Gary, IN 46403, United States, this spot doesn’t just serve food-it delivers an experience. The sizzling sound from the kitchen, the rich aroma of jerk seasoning, and the friendly chatter of regulars make it feel like home from the very first visit.

I first stumbled upon this place after a long day at the beach nearby, craving something flavorful and hearty. What I found was not only the best jerk chicken I’d ever had outside of Jamaica, but a dining experience that blends authenticity with warmth. The chef, who trained in traditional Caribbean cooking, takes pride in preparing each dish from scratch, ensuring the perfect balance between smoky spice and tender meat.

The menu here is a celebration of Caribbean comfort food. From jerk chicken and curry goat to fried plantains and rice and peas, every bite tells a story. You’ll find daily specials that change depending on what’s freshest, but the jerk salmon and oxtail stew are local favorites for good reason. Each plate is carefully prepared, marinated for hours, and grilled to perfection. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners today value authenticity and freshness more than ever, and this place nails both effortlessly.

What sets this diner apart isn’t just the food, but the atmosphere. The team greets you like family, and the laid-back Caribbean beats in the background make it easy to linger longer than planned. It’s the kind of spot where you can enjoy a quick lunch or settle in for a weekend meal with friends. Locals often mention in their reviews how the flavors remind them of home, and it’s easy to see why. One customer I met there told me they drive from Chicago every other weekend just for the jerk wings.

The cooking method is something special. The chef uses a traditional smoking process that infuses the meat with a depth of flavor that’s hard to replicate. I had the chance to watch part of the process during one visit-the jerk seasoning, made from a blend of Scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, allspice, and a few secret ingredients, is massaged into the meat hours before it hits the grill. The result is perfectly charred edges with juicy, flavorful meat inside. This isn’t fast food; it’s slow, soulful cooking that respects tradition.

For anyone curious about the ingredients, they’re as fresh as it gets. Produce is locally sourced whenever possible, and the spices come directly from Caribbean suppliers. Research from the International Food Information Council shows that diners are increasingly drawn to authentic global flavors prepared with care, and this restaurant embodies that movement beautifully.

If you’re exploring Gary, this location is easy to find-right near the waterfront, with plenty of parking and a cozy dining space that fills up quickly during lunch hours. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, the consistency is impressive. I’ve visited multiple times, and every meal has been as flavorful as the last. The online reviews echo the same sentiment-delicious food, generous portions, and staff who genuinely care.

A friend of mine, who works as a food blogger, described the jerk chicken here as “the best north of Kingston,” and honestly, I’d have to agree. What’s most refreshing is how this place stays true to its roots while welcoming everyone with open arms. It’s not just about eating-it’s about sharing culture, history, and a love of good food.

While there are plenty of dining options in Gary, few manage to capture the spirit of Caribbean cuisine quite like this one. The combination of traditional methods, local ingredients, and a family-style environment makes it a standout choice. Whether you’re a first-timer or a loyal customer, each visit feels like a return to something genuine.

If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss the chance to experience it for yourself. Bring an appetite, an open mind, and maybe a friend or two-you’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit.

  • This is my second time ordering the food was outstanding. 1st time-Lamb Chops we absolutely tender, Juicy, and flavorful. Jerk wings were fire too. Cabbage, sweet potatoes-delicious. 2nd time-ordered three meals via door dash- Brown stew chicken, Jerk Wings, beef patty, plantains, sweet potatoes, Mac& Cheese, and rice with gravy- absolutely just as delicous and flavorful as the 1st order. One of my dinners was missing. The driver went back to retrieve it and returned with a complementary drink. Attached was a smiley face note wrapped around it with an apology for the inconvenience hoping that the lemonade makes it better. That made me smile. Keep this establishment in business! Outstanding across the board. Looking forward to my next order.

  • Food was mid not as food as I expected and to give a person a catfish tail as a catfish steak is crazy. I go to a lot of jerk restaurant and this was the first I do feel the sweet potato could have been cooked longer due to them being hard in some spots and my mac n cheese was dry like it cooked too long or was day old however it is the best seasoned Mac n cheese I have has from an jerk restaurant. Will come again for another try.
